FAO RAAISE programme: training of trainers and Bari coast delivery
As implementation partner to FAO, SMAFRI trained its trainer cadre in Bosaso and delivered fish-handling programmes in Bandarbeyla and Bargaal.
Under the FAO-supported RAAISE Growth in Somalia programme, the Institute trained its training-of-trainers staff in fisheries co-management practices and seamanship and sea-survival methods in Bosaso in May and June 2024.
Targeted community training in safe fish handling, processing and value addition followed in Bandarbeyla in June 2024 and in Bargaal from 28 June to 2 July 2024. Instruction combined classroom sessions with supervised practical work on landed fish. Participants received the materials required to apply the practice they had been taught.
Delivery of this kind requires the ability to mobilise participants in remote districts, supervise practical work safely, distribute and account for equipment, and document activity to the standard that public and donor funding demands.
