Eight Diploma cohorts and eleven vocational cohorts graduated
The Institute’s own academic and vocational programmes have produced eight Diploma cohorts and eleven vocational skills cohorts for Somalia’s marine sector.
Education and training are the functions the institution has performed since 2014. Academic provision is organised into three departments — Navigational, Fishing Technology and Marine Environment.
The Diploma in Marine Science is delivered over two years and four semesters through lectures, laboratory practicals, marine fieldwork, a supervised attachment and an individual research project.
The vocational catalogue is built on eight core fisheries trades, delivered through practical, workshop and field-based instruction, including dedicated training for women and for working fishermen around the fishing calendar.
